In his notes on his tour of English gardens, Jefferson described the location of a Doric temple and wrote "This straight walk has an ill effect. The lawn in front, which is pasture, well disposed with clumps of trees." Adams simply wrote, "Woburn, Caversham and the Leasowes are beautifull."
