Event: Bought sadlery from Barks and PearceDates: 1786-04-14 - 1786-04-14Short Description: TJ paid 10-10-9 for sadlery. The full name of this store is “Birks & Pearce, Saddle, Cap and Whip Makers, No. 36 Top of the Hay Market.” (Mem. Books, p. 621) This comes with a footnote reference to a trade card from the MHi, which perhaps may be the Massachusetts Historical Society, although a search on their website yielded no results. Another source cites that he spent 20 pounds on saddlery, so perhaps the text “10-10-9” adds up to 20 pounds. (TJ Wiki, London) Jefferson later paid them again (21/9) on April 16, 1786.
