Short Description:
Historic estate of the Dukes of Marlborough. The palace was built in the early 1700s and was designed by John Vanbrugh in the English Baroque style. Both the palace's interior and the surrounding gardens have undergone several renovations since Jefferson's visit. However, a key feature of the landscape that interested Jefferson -- the lake and series of cascades designed by Capability Brown -- remains.
