Place Label/Name: Greenwich ObservatoryLat. 0°00’14.29” W - Long. 51°29’52.70” N Google Map LinkShort Description: Greenwich Observatory, or the National Observatory was chartered in 1675 by Charles the II. Right around Jefferson’s visit was when the Observatory became the spot for calculating the Greenwich Mean Time. The Prime Meridian runs through the center of the Observatory, and has been recognized as such since 1885. However, even in Jefferson’s time a trip to the Observatory would have been worth it for him since it played right into his personal interests in science and the unknown.
